Frequently Asked Questions
Does child support cover college expenses?
Does child support cover college expenses? Unless a child is disabled and unable to live independently, the court does not have the power to order support past high school and the age of 18. However, the parties can enter into an agreement that becomes a contract to pay the expenses of college or vocational school for their children. This agreement will be drafted as a part of your divorce decree and then can be enforced by the courts as a contract. This must be an agreement, and cannot be ordered by the court after a case goes to trial.
